Yant Paed Tidt (The Eight-Direction Compass Mandala)
An octagonal radial mandala with eight spokes radiating from a central lotus core, inscribing the eight directional permutations of the Itipiso verse around the compass rose.
Built around concentric rings and an eight-spoked wheel (Dhammacakka / Atthangika Magga). Each of the eight cardinal and intercardinal tips terminates in an Unalome spiral and houses one 7-syllable stanza of the Itipiso Paet Thit, while the center encloses the 5 Buddhas ('Na Mo Put Tha Ya') or Triple Gem ('Ma A U').
In Thai monastic iconography, Yant Paed Tidt represents the radiation of the Dhamma across the eight spatial directions (Attha-Disa) as described in the Atanatiya and Metta Suttas. Commonly engraved on the reverse of circular Rian medallions, Phayant banners, and ritual bowls (Khan Nam Mon).
