How prices are checked

Every price we show links to the public listing or auction result it came from, with the date we saw it and the price in its original currency. Prices that fail a check stay in our records but are never shown. Prices are observations of the market, not appraisals, and a listed price says nothing about whether a piece is genuine.

Why a price is excluded

• duplicate Same source, same listing URL and same amount already stored — counted once. (29,246)
• parse_error The source's page layout made our reader store a non-price number (e.g. a seller score or a Buddhist-era year). (3,490)
• currency_unknown The source shows prices in $ or RM but they were stored as baht. (46)
• placeholder_price A 'call for price' placeholder such as 99,999 or 999,999. (126)
• out_of_range Below ฿50 (opening bids) or above ฿10,000,000 (typically a phone number). (1,637)
• invented_sample Demonstration data that was never a real listing. (38)
• Non-baht prices are converted at the European Central Bank reference rate for the capture date.
