01Literal Translation (EN)

Spoken by Venerable Assaji to Upatissa (later Venerable Sariputta) in the Vinaya Mahavagga (1.23.5), summarizing the Four Noble Truths and Dependent Origination (Paticcasamuppada) in a single four-line Pali stanza.

02Deeper Doctrinal, Philosophical & Meditative Exegesis (EN)

Historically, this is the single most important epigraphic text in the archaeology of Thai amulets: between the 6th and 11th centuries CE (Dvaravati and Srivijaya periods), thousands of terracotta votive tablets (Phra Phim) excavated at Nakhon Pathom, Khu Bua, Yala, and Lamphun had this exact Pali stanza stamped on their reverse or around the Buddha's halo in Southern Brahmi and Pallava scripts.
