Archaeologically and metallurgically, antique Phra Ngang originate from Late Ayutthaya sand-cast bronze votive figures of the Crowned Buddha (Phra Chaiwat Song Khrueang) whose lotus spire tilted backward in the mould and whose eyes were inlaid with red glass or copper paste.
Over centuries, folk tradition reinterpreted the tilted-crown bronze figure as an autonomous Maha Saneh talisman.
