Iti Sugato ... Namo Putthaya
Framing the Jataka figure strictly under the refuge of the Well-Farer (Sugato) and the Five Buddhas
01Literal Translation (EN)
Draws from Chapter 5(Jujaka) of the Maha Vessantara Jataka (Theetsana Mahachat), where the elderly Brahmin mendicant Jujaka (Chuchok) accumulates savings from alms-begging and serves as the catalyst for Prince Vessantara's supreme Perfection of Giving (Dana-Parami).
In Thai talismanic iconography, Chuchok is carved with a topknot, walking staff, and alms-bag slung over his shoulder.
Masterpieces of the genre include the carved wooden Chuchok of Luang Pu Rod (Wat Bang Nam Won, Samut Sakhon), Luang Phor Sompong (Wat Mai Pin Kliao), and the cast metal Chuchok of Luang Phor Tim (Wat Lahan Rai).
